Effect of Glyphosate on Guineagrass Submitted to Different Soil Water Potential Planta Daninha
SILVA JR.,A.C.; GONÇALVES,C.G.; SCARANO,M.C.; PEREIRA,M.R.R.; MARTINS,D..
ABSTRACT: The action of herbicides on weeds that develop under water deficit can be compromised, because the routes of penetration of hydrophilic herbicides are reduced due to the lower hydration of the cuticle in these plants. Moreover, hydrophobic compounds found in the epicuticular wax coating of plants under water stress, hinder the penetration of hydrophilic compounds. This study evaluated the control efficiency of glyphosate on guineagrass plants when submitted to different water deficits. The study was conducted in a greenhouse, and treatments were composed of guineagrass plants submitted to three soil water conditions [low water deficit (13%), intermediate water deficit (10%) and high water restriction (8%)], three doses of glyphosate (0.0, 270.0...

Herbicide Selectivity in Tropical Ornamental Species Planta Daninha
QUEIROZ,J.R.G.; SILVA JR.,A.C.; MARTINS,D..
ABSTRACT This study evaluated the selectivity of herbicides applied post-emergence on ornamental plants of Alpinia purpurata, Strelitzia reginae and Heliconia psittacorum. The study was conducted in two seasons. The experimental design was completely randomized with four replications. The treatments were: fluazifop-p-butyl (87.5 g ha-1), quizalofop-p-ethyl (75.0 g ha-1), sethoxydim (184.0 g ha-1), quinclorac (375.0 g ha-1), chlorimuron-ethyl (15.0 g ha-1), clethodim + fenoxaprop-p-ethyl (37.5 + 37.5 g ha-1), bentazon (720.0 g ha-1), fomesafen (225.0 g ha-1), and a control without any herbicide. In general, all tested herbicides and doses were selective for the three studied species. Although plants of A. purpurata and H. psittacorum have shown symptoms of...

Use of Prohexadione Calcium on Grass Species Development Planta Daninha
QUEIROZ,J.R.G.; SILVA JR.,A.C.; MARTINS,D..
ABSTRACT: This study has aimed to evaluate the effect of prohexadione-calcium as a plant growth regulator on growth and quality of Japanese lawn grass, Broadleaf carpet grass and Bermudagrass. The treatments and doses of the prohexadione-calcium tested with two three reapplications were 27.5, 55.0, 110.0, 165.0 and 165.0 g a.i. ha-1, and a control without application of a growth regulator. Visual injury evaluations were performed using a scale of scores and plant height and chipping dry matter were determined. We have evaluated the total thickness of the sod grass, root length and dry matter of this material at the end of the experimental period. The study was arranged in a completely randomized design with four replications. The results were submitted to...

Water Stress in the Production and Quality of Bidens pilosa and Raphanus raphanistrum Seeds Planta Daninha
PEREIRA,M.R.R.; MARTINS,C.C.; SILVA JR.,A.C.; MARTINS,D..
ABSTRACT: Plants in soils with low water availability may present a reduction of their leaf area and photosynthetic rate, as well as lower assimilated compound supply for seeds. Knowing the physiological quality and seed production of weeds generated under water deficit conditions can help understanding the survival and competition strategies of species. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of water stress on the production and germination of Bidens pilosa and Raphanus raphanistrum seeds. Plants were maintained in soils with different water potentials (-0.03, -0.07 and -1.5 MPa) throughout their cycle, until seed production, when they were harvested. Then, evaluations were performed to find out the number of seeds per plant and number of...

Weed Management and Herbicide Selectivity in Ornamental Plants Planta Daninha
MARTINS,D.; MARTINS,C.C.; SILVA JR.,A.C..
ABSTRACT: Floriculture and landscaping sector has the same problems as other crops regarding weed management. Weeds affect the yield and quality of the harvested product, in which the visual aspect and aesthetics stand out as the most important factors in flower production and landscaping. Weed control in floriculture and landscaping is critical and costly because maintaining the beauty of the product and the use of herbicides is a low-cost management tool compared to manual management. However, it implies knowing herbicide selectivity, as ornamental species may present some injury depending on the active ingredient and the degree of selectivity of the compound. Because the use of this practice in flower production and landscaping both abroad and mainly in...
